Since 31 October 2015, dental professionals in England and Wales have had a legal obligation to notify the police if they discover that an act of female genital mutilation (FGM) appears to have been carried out on a girl under the age of 18.
Breaking the law can cause long term issues!
A dentist received a request from the police to provide them with a report on a teenage girl’s dental condition. The member had seen the girl as an emergency appointment at the practice a few weeks earlier, after she had reportedly been involved in a fight after school.
