Must I respond if a complaint is made by someone acting for the patient?

A patient with capacity can authorise someone else to complain on their behalf - such as a parent, carer, solicitor or MP - but you'll need to satisfy yourself that they are acting with the patient's authority.

Our guide to responding to complaints from third parties might help, and of course you can always call us for advice if you are unsure.
