What is a significant event audit?

A significant event audit is a way of formally analysing incidents with implications for patient care, in order to learn from things that have gone wrong and highlight examples of good practice.

An effective significant event audit usually seeks contributions from every member of the dental team and involves a meeting to discuss what happened, why and what lessons can be learned.

Our guide to patient safety and risk management has more information on significant event audits.
